How Progress Reporting Should Work in Professional Construction

What Professional Reporting Looks Like

In professional construction management, progress reporting is not an afterthought — it is a core deliverable. A proper weekly progress report should include: overall progress percentage against the baseline schedule, work completed during the reporting period, work planned for the next period, site photographs documenting current status, issues and risks identified, budget status summary, and any variations or change requests.

Monthly reports should provide more depth: detailed budget tracking against the BOQ, S-curve analysis comparing planned versus actual progress, procurement status, quality inspection results, safety records, and milestone forecasting.

Why Most Bali Builders Don't Report

The Bali construction industry has historically operated on informal relationships and verbal agreements. Many builders — even good ones — don't provide systematic reporting because they've never been required to. This puts property owners, especially those based overseas, at a significant disadvantage.
